Coyote Performs Solo Electric in Los Angeles Night Clubs
After a Freemason Meeting of December 2009, Coyote lost his Alvarez 12-string acoustic guitar he'd been performing and recording with since 1973.
Coyote was the "Organist" of Panamericana Lodge 513 in 2009 after becoming a Master Mason in February, 2009. Each and every Mason meeting for the rest of the year featured Coyote performing his Alvarez acoustic guitar and Selmer-Bundy nickel-plated flute.
Masons of his lodge said it really added more enjoyment and dynamics to their rituals, ceremonies and meetings to have Coyote performing here, there, and whenever possible throughout the two or three-hour weekly events each Thursday.
This Alvarez acoustic guitar had performed hundreds of concerts, and thousands of songs, powered by Coyote. Almost every acoustic guitar performed and recorded by Coyote since 1973 used that acoustic guitar. Sometimes it had 12 strings on it. Sometimes it had only 6 strings.
Friends and family offered to help him purchase another acoustic guitar, but Coyote refused. "I'm not going to play acoustic guitar anymore," Coyote calmly stated. This would seem impossible for our Folk Rock Troubadour, but Coyote is determined to be the best electric guitarist he can be instead.
Coyote's fans offered to give him acoustic guitars. Instead Coyote performed several gigs to prove his persistence and establish his new direction, even as a soloist.
Coyote's first gig after losing his guitar, was performed with poetry readings and singing the lyrics a cappella.
Coyote's next gig was performing SOLO with his electric guitar at THE SMELL nightclub in downtown Los Angeles, on January 28, 2010. Wearing his cowboy longcoat, cowboy hat, and his 1984 Fender Stratocaster guitar with a sunburst tobacco finish, Coyote performed a full set of material, with only 5 strings on his electric guitar. He broke his A-string during the first song, "Kill The Spider." Not having any roadies, and with his guitar case being guarded by his daughter somewhere in the dark concert hall--he just kept playing. Occassionally, when he really needed some notes from his guitar's A-string he would "sing" the notes which brought chuckles from the audience who realized what he was doing.
Coyote's next gig, performing solo on his Strat, also included a broken string at the beginning of the show. This time Coyote was prepared and chatted with the audience as he casually changed his guitar string onstage. Coyote also performed more songs from the rock opera, COYOTE IN A GRAVEYARD, from which he was named in 1985. The song, "Out Of My Mind," included stories of how he used to perform this rock opera and song with, "a sax player from Tai Mantis..."

About American Zen
American Zen is The Hippy Coyote who fronts the band on flute and electric guitar. Coyote is the "Kung Fu Cowboy" who studies Shaolin Kung Fu, and with his recent record, LEVEL 4 = Kung Fu Cowboy PART 2 has become the world's most astounding musician playing drums, electric bass, slide guitars, electric guitars, flute, harmonica, and a variety of other instruments and percussion. Coyote no longer performs or records acoustic guitar, since losing his Alvarez 12-string on December 3, 2009. However, with hundreds of songs recorded with his acoustic guitar since 1974, Coyote says he prefers his Marshall amplifier and wah-wah pedal now. All songs, lyrics, and poetry are composed by The Hippy Coyote, who has also written the novel, SID'S PLACE, and created the websites for each LEVEL of American Zen's ascent toward Heaven on their Zen Buddhist journey to Nirvana.

About Buddha Zhen
Zhen Shen-Lang "Truth Spirit-Wolf" or Spirit Wolf of Truth (The Chinese always put last name first.)
Buddha Zhen was recognized for his teaching skills while an Advanced Student of Tai Mantis Federation in early 1980s. However, Buddha Zhen, then known as Richard O'Connor, even passed up opportunities to perform with David Carradine, only considering his Shaolin Kung Fu to be a hobby. After moving to Utah in 1991, unable to find work in the record business or movie business, Kung Fu and Tai Chi became the only way for Buddha Zhen to support himself in Utah while being a Mr. Mom to two kids. Shaolin Chi Mantis was founded in 1992 and in 1996 Master Zhen created the Tai Chi Youth nonprofit 501(c)(3) charity organization for troubled youth. Buddha Zhen founded the Buddha Kung Fu school in 2008 which includes the Buddha Tai Chi, Shaolin Kids , and 12 Step 12 Week Kung Fu Bootcamp programs.
