Coyote to Lion Dance with Vegas Lohan School
Richard
Del Connor, pka Buddha
Zhen, (and The
Hippy Coyote), has accepted an invitation to live with his Tai Mantis Federation school brother, Sifu Steve Baugh, who is also a Chan Buddhist Priest. Rev. Steve has told Richard that he will train him in Lion Dance drumming so that he can add it to his Shaolin Chi Mantis, Buddha Kung Fu, and Tai Chi Youth schools.
"How long will you be in Vegas?" asked Nate Pisa, Buddha Zhen's supervisor at the Tujunga YMCA where BZ teaches Tuesday Tai Chi classes and Friday morning senior Tai Chi classes.
"Through the Chinese New Year, sometime in February. I'm going to be learning Lion Dancing so I may stay a little longer. Maybe until May," replied Coyote.
Coyote neglected to tell his boss that his Kung Fu brother had offered a rent-free bedroom to Coyote because he understood that Coyote was having financial difficulties and needed to move away from his ex-wife of the past 20 years.
"Come and see if you can start a school in Las Vegas," suggested Rev. Steve Baugh. "There's a martial arts school on every corner of the mall my school is in. Right now my son is the only other teacher and we have over 80 students."
So perhaps this will be an opportunity for Buddha Zhen to launch a successful Kung Fu school while working for another Kung Fu Master and learning Lion Dancing.
"I have the curriculums, but the school needs more students to survive," explained Buddha Zhen to his Crescenta Valley Students. "Steve's school has always had more students and he wants to show me how he teaches."
When Coyote arrived in Los Angeles a few days before the Millennium, he was excited about launching a new Kung Fu school in California. Unfortunately, in 2001 Coyote was bitten several times by a large black widow spider in his pants. It took Coyote weeks before the swelling of his feet went down so he could stand on them (you couldn't see his toes). It was a couple years before he could walk to the store and in 2004 he began teaching Tai Chi classes in the dirt lot in front of his house and then the YMCA in La Canada-Flintridge.
In 2007 their were Shaolin Kids classes at the YMCA and over 50 students in his various classes at two YMCA locations. That year, Richard added the Crescenta Valley Park classes and launched Buddha Kung Fu classes there with over a dozen students.
Coyote told his YMCA senior class about the move to Las Vegas. "I need gas for Christmas," he laughed. As a result several seniors gave their Shifu gas credit cards, some cash, and of course, Christmas chocolates. The seniors were sad to hear the announcement. Some seniors, like Judy, have been with Shifu Zhen since his first class in 2005 at that location.
"My students are my kids," explains Coyote. "No matter how old they are," he smiles.
Having had only an iMac Blueberry computer since 2010 when his G5 blew up, a couple of students, Disciple Nicky and his mom donated a 2003 G3 laptop to Buddha Zhen. No battery, broken plug-in, worn-out hard drive... "You'll be lucky if it lasts a year," said the Apple store technician. The hard drive was so slow and worn out it failed to have the software installed on it. The Apple technician handed the computer back to Coyote saying, "Sorry, it's just too worn out."
"You mean it doesn't work at all?" asked Coyote.
"Sorry."
"Could you please try again?" pleaded Coyote.
The Apple tech just looked at Coyote like he was an alien. Oh yeah... he is. But anyway, Coyote put on his big puppy dog eyes and the Apple tech started the process over again. It worked.
This webpage for the 2011 December AmZen-eNEWS is being typeset with that same laptop from Disciple Nicky. It's September 2012 now. The original newsletters of American Zen were sent out by email and then later were posted on these ShaolinRecords.com webpages. My new plan is from now on to make the newsletters here in the website, and send out a brief email note that the website is posted. It will be less work that way and less chance of being sucked into someone's SPAM filter.
So December 2011 became the final break-up of Richard Del Connor and Michelle McCarty. She began as his intern at the North Hollywood condominium where Richard ran his record company and movie production company, Shaolin Film & Records. At that time Richard had graduated UCLA Motion Picture Program and was working with 35mm movie production, television commercials, music videos, and MTV as a Lighting Director, Gaffer, Assistant Art Director, and Cinematographer.
The rock opera, Coyote In A Graveyard, was now a screenplay after New World Pictures asked Richard Del Connor (then "The Coyote") to rewrite the rock opera music movie into a standard feature film with the same music. This became the 1985 screenplay and was used by UCLA students of the Screenwriting Program as an example for formatting. Coyote's scriptwriting teacher liked the screenplay content but was also impressed by Coyote's invention of the interactive music lyrics and how Coyote wrote them into the Hollywood screenplay writing format.
More about this later in 2012 eNEWS after I edit the Coyote In A Graveyard screenplay into the Kindle format during the beginning of this upcoming year.
