LEVEL 3 = I Want You To Love Me is American Zen's third album on Shaolin Records
     and their 3rd Level of Shaolin Zen Buddhism.

Montrose, California – October 2, 2008 –American Zen, America's first Buddhist rock band, released LEVEL 3 = I Want You To Love Me, September 11, 2008, their follow-up album to Level 2 = Christ Killer. Both albums were released by Shaolin Records and produced by Richard Connor.

Finally. After several years of complaining about iTunes not having a “Folk Rock” category--they created one.

Previous categories were, “folk-rock,” and “folk/rock.” Although these still exist, we are happy to finally see the “Folk Rock” category established by iTunes. This reemergence of folk rock parallels the original creation of the folk rock category in the sixties when Bob Dylan, Buffalo Springfield, and Cat Stevens combined the American acoustic folk music of the sixties with the new British rock’n’roll led by The Rolling Stones, and The Beatles.

American Zen has been classified by many radio stations as “Classic Rock” because of the similarity in their songwriting and sound to the previously mentioned bands. However, calling a new release, “classic rock,” implies it was recorded decades ago. So, we’ve had reluctance in promoting American Zen as “Classic Rock” as the band pioneers their creativity, with their musical roots and passions based upon sixties music.

The newest album by American Zen, LEVEL 3 = I WANT YOU TO LOVE ME, was recorded at Shaolin Records in Tujunga California. The band’s songwriter, The Hippy Coyote, an actual hippie who was at Telegraph Ave. and Haight-Ashbury in 1967 and 1968, says his influences for their newest album are the boogie-woogie music he learned to play piano to and the blues he learned to play guitar to.

In our efforts to expand the Folk Rock genre, Shaolin Records is producing the FOLK ROCK PODCAST OF SHAOLIN RECORDS to promote and support other folk rock artists worldwide.
