Finding Drums

I've been training both my kids in drumming since they were 4-years old, but I've never had a drumset.

Rory seems to enjoy the drums more than Caitlin so I've been trying to get him a real set.

I've purchased him three of those $19 toy drum sets you give kids at Christmas. He beats it to death and I get him another one.

Me, I've got my Pearl drum pedal taped to a cardboard file box as I beat up, wear out, and throw away the box lids.

I've been pounding boxes for a couple years now.

I've got this 50-gallon black oil drum that we brought from Utah. I've been pounding on it with Kung Fu-style drumsticks and having a lot of fun playing along to records like, Cream, and a couple songs from Courtney Love's Hole band, and even some that New York druggie drumming of The Dandy Warhols.

Walking hand in hand with Rory to his school each day, has been a valuable Zen for me. I often find myself saying to myself, "I am the luckiest man in the world," or "I am the luckiest guy in the world." Enjoy the flowers, watch the squirrels, say, "hi," to the dogs...

At his school, I've been trying to promote my music and album. All the neighbors have been pressured by me to buy a cd...and I've been asking around, "Whose got any old drums lieing around..."

A girl name Michelle, a different Michelle, gave me Zildjian ride cymbal, a Scimitar. I love it.

Another neighbor gave me an old ludwig snare and High Hat.

Rory and I now have a couple of "real" drums to play now.
