Buddha Zhen to autograph new old book, Tao of Taoism:
Buddha Zhen (Zhen, Shen-Lang "Spirit Wolf of Truth) will be selling and autographing copies of his book, Tao of Taoism - Using the Dao te Ching to Improve Your Life, at the Martial Arts Museum Martial Arts Bookfest.
Each year this event brings together martial arts book authors to meet their audience and autograph books. This will be Buddha Zhen's first time seated at the conference table with his own martial arts masters, Dr. Kam Yuen and Sifu Douglas Wong. Buddha Zhen, then Richard O'Connor, studied under Sifu Douglas Wong in 1980. In 1981 Richard, currently known as the Kung Fu Cowboy of American Zen rock band, joined the Tai Mantis school in Torrance, California. Graduating in 1984, Buddha Zhen taught as a hobby until 1992 when he founded Shaolin Chi Mantis Traditional Buddhist Gongfu and Taijiquan.
In 1993 , the book Tao of Taoism, was titled, The Dao - Coming to Terms. Buddha Zhen transformed this book into a self-help book that paved the way for almost a dozen other self-help books written by Buddha Zhen / Richard Del Connor. When Richard authors lyrics and poetry or novels about rock'n'roll life, he authors under the name, The Hippy Coyote.
Buddha Zhen's first book, Tai Chi Beginner, was published by the maximum security prison he taught at in 1992. Each week students would receive the next of 16 sections of the Tai Chi Beginner book. Adding them to their notebooks, they would also be receiving weekly sections of the Shaolin Kung Fu Beginner and Tai Chi Intermediate... This system ended in 2008 with the publication of Buddha Kung Fu Student Manual by Buddha Zhen. This PDF file book is full color. Links within the book connect the student to many of the Shaolin Communications websites associated with the Kung Fu and Tai Chi programs.
By linking to webpages, the Buddha Kung Fu Student Manual became a dynamic learning tool for students. When asked if the Tao of Taoism would be similar to the Buddha Kung Fu Student Manual, Buddha Zhen replied, "No." The Buddha Kung Fu Student Manual is a unique student guide, but it really needs to be read, even in a class environment, with each student at a computer screen. The students would all click the same links to read from the same internet pages. The Tao of Taoism book is my favorite style of notebook questions with spaces to write your answers. Since we were combining different books into our school notebooks, the 3-hole system worked really nice. But, we are considering a large format paperback. I'm anxious to get some feedback and information from the other martial arts authors. I will decide after that whether books like Tao of Taoism will be paperback or hard cover now."
For this book fair, Buddha Zhen printed up 20 special notebooks on a brand new printer he purchased last week. "I used this really heavy duty paper that looks like marble but feels like cloth, and I punched all the books in a horse stance." Buddha Zhen is referring to the 3-hole punching of the paper before being inserted into the 1/2" black binders with clear slipsheet covers into which BZ printed full color front and back covers. Although the book is mostly text, the book was printed full-color, 2-sided on a marbled 40 pound paper stock. A "horse stance" is the position used by martial artists when their feet point straight ahead with bent legs--giving the appearance of riding a horse. "I put good Kung Fu into these notebooks!" adds Buddha Z.
The book's Yin-Yang cover was painted by Buddha Zhen with a large brush and black ink.
Book description: Tao of Taoism - Using the Tao te Ching to Improve Your Life
Buddha Zhen created the Tao of Taoism book in 1993 for his Shaolin Chi Mantis Traditional Buddhist Gongfu and Taijiquan schools. In 2012, while editing the book for ebook release, he first created this PDF version for 3-ring binder notebooks. This is the student version with lines for writing answers to the questions posed by Buddha Z, based upon the original Dao Te Ching book's intentions to inspire and enlighten the reader to live a better life and improve their self.
Learn to be in harmony with yourself and Nature as taught by Lao Tzu.
