"Christmas Is" Song Added to Kung Fu Cowboy Album PART 1
"I'm not sure when I recorded this. I discovered it accidentally, a few months ago," explains The Hippy Coyote of American Zen. "When I decided to rewrite the album into the story of Hiram Abif being murdered in King Solomon's Temple, I had to switch a few of the songs around on the album. Somehow, during the process I was able to slip this "Christmas Is" song into the album."
The song, "Christmas Is," was probably written and recorded in 1993 when Coyote was performing poetry readings on a weekly basis in Utah. "I remember being asked to submit a Christmas poem for a Christmas poetry book this poetry society was going to publish of Utah poets. But I'd forgotten putting it to music and recording the song on this album."
"Yep," Coyote smiles proudly. "These past few years have been really Hellish for me. I was completely alone for last Christmas and the one before was...so I didn't want to try to sing this song right now. The vocal on this cassette recording had the sincerity and love that I might find weakened right now."
So that's what we did. I dumped the 1993 cassette recording into ProTools. Then we added the wah-wah guitars and it sounded cool. I almost considered the song done, but decided it needed at least one more musical element: tambourine or bass. I chose bass.
That's a CRYBABY WAH WAH by Dunlop. Same model I think Jimi Hendrix used to use.
In the rock opera, KING SOLOMON'S TEMPLE, the King enjoys time with his young family--like a Christmas.
This scene will contrast later with the discontent that spreads the workplace and kingdom as the Temple reaches completion.
This story of Hiram Abif is from the legends taught to Freemasons when they join Masonry.
The story teaches honor and dignity while protecting truth and justice.
The song, "Christmas Is," will hopefully inspire love and generosity for the Christmas season.
Christmas 2010 will be the first Christmas for this song.
