American Zen was founded in 1992 when Coyote moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. Originally, Coyote only planned to substitute for his musician buddies... but by this third album he realized he needed to become the drummer he kept hoping would return to the band. During the final recording of the LEVEL 2 = Christ Killer album, Coyote got a drum set (on Valentine's Day),. He vowed not to record a single beat for an entire year while he improved his drumming skills. Then he recorded this album, LEVEL 3 = I Want You To Love Me by American Zen.

The Hippy Coyote was born Richard Del Connor in San Diego, California. He began fronting rock bands as singer-guitarist in 1967. Coyote fronted bands on bass, and flute before creating American Zen band in 1992 in which he pretends to be all four band members, performing all the instruments and vocals. Kung Fu Cowboy Rock & Roll Movie 1 has been written about Coyote's Shaolin Kung Fu lifestyle.
Kung Fu Cowboy album cover photo of End of the Line album by American Zen was shot on the last day of the album overdubs at Scott's house. Coyote laid down his final guitar tracks with his Fender Stratocaster and Marshall Amp shortly after taking these train track photos in Van Nuys, California.

About American Zen
American Zen is led by The Hippy Coyote who fronts the band on flute, acoustic guitar, percussion and vocals. Coyote is a renaissance man who writes all the music, lyrics, and poetry. Although credit is given to the band members, Coyote is performing all instruments and all vocals. Coyote intentionally acted in the various roles to create vocal styles and performances in the manner and character of his musical egos, personified with a mix of himself and his favorite bandmates of the past. The LEVEL 3 album cover was shot by Nancy Volrath in the Hollywood Hills.
