Release Party Cancelled / Kung Fu Cowboy Book Released
We were trying to plan a release party for today, February 27, 2009. I had a local bar picked out in Montrose where I occassionally show up and jam with the bands. The owner was happy to host our Shaolin Records RECORD RELEASE PARTY--but I’ve been too busy to coordinate it all by myself.
Sorry.
But I have been getting a lot of other projects done this month.
KUNG FU COWBOY ORIGINAL DRAFT poetry and lyric book came out really cool. I made it so that when you view the pdf, the pages will open like a notebook with a left sheet and a right sheet. Many of the double pages are linked together with notes and pictures. The KUNG FU COWBOY ORIGINAL DRAFT book just happened accidentally. I was creating a “war board” flow chart for our newest album, in production, LEVEL 4 = KUNG FU COWBOY by American Zen. I always create a “Producer Notebook” for each album I make. The lyrics, notes, mixdown info, and legal paperwork can all be found and filed easily there in these notebooks.
So, I’m creating this notebook and for the first time assembled it as if writing a novel storyline. It was fun. I was also verying and experimenting with the song and poetry order. The various evolutions of the book and album are in the back of the book where I included some of these outlines. I finished the book on my birthday, February 4.
After a decade of being a computer owner, I miss writing by hand. Yeah, my hand gets tired and sore sooner than it used to...But I’ve been writing by hand anyway. I went to the stationer and purchased a half dozen of my favorite pens. Three of them went dry writing this book. It was supposed to be a 3 day project, “a 3 hour tour...,” but I got lost on Gilligan’s Island and three weeks flew by as I worked on this book every day.
The “ORIGINAL DRAFT” was supposed to be just that, an original sketch, not even the first draft or rough draft of the book. I still have to typeset it first in Quark Xpress. Even the photos and artwork are missing from this handwritten book. But this antiqued book is still inspiring to me. I enjoyed reading my handwriting. I could have wrote even nicer if I’d planned on anyone else reading it...but that gives it a unique honesty too as you read my notes and ideas for the book and album by American Zen.
