Cut and Paste Recording World

Album reviews of American Zen's first album, Level 1 = Peace Of Mind,
are referring to the music as, "inspiring," "enlightening," "thought provoking," and "spiritual."

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tujunga, California – April 10, 2006 – American Zen, America's first Buddhist rock band, released their first album in 2005, Level 1 = Peace Of Mind. Currently Coyote is at ATM Studios in Burbank "sweetening" the Coyote Radio Tujunga album being produced by Richard Connor, to be released by Shaolin Records.

Hanging with the big boys at ATM Studios. It is amazing to see a modern recording engineer work. I'm from the sixties and seventies, where I learned to record onto 2" tape. The demands and talents of engineers were higher back then. Nowadays, any 13 year old can run a studio in his closet. But hanging with Vic Flores, of ATM Studios has been a real eye-opener for me.

It made me remember how some things never change, although they appear to change. My passion for record engineering back in the seventies was only dampened by having to record the best possible commercials, albums, or jingles performed by dreadful musicians. Working with studio professionals is a unique pleasure in itself. More stories about that later. Still, watching Vic recording various hip hop artists I realized how he deals with the same issues I did in the seventies, only now with the technologies of the 21st Century.

Most notably, the "cut and paste" technology of music, has created a new perspective towards song structure and music. It took me weeks to get used to Vic cutting and pasting music around within songs.

And looping...I never got into this either but that's another way to look at cut and paste. So, sitting in the back of ATM Studios, watching Vic and the various football jerseys nodding to the digital beats--it was helpful, as I still try to not be guilty for cutting and pasting something in a song, instead of singing or playing it.
